That’s Gorgeous! was born from my passion for beauty therapy, and my own experiences in going to salons for treatments.

When my youngest was heading to Primary School, I faced the prospect of returning to work – but work was not a job that I enjoyed.  An inspirational friend who was embarking on a new career as a mature-age student convinced me that I too could do something different.  Having had my nails done for years (I watched them very carefully – how hard could it be, right?), I thought that maybe I could study to become a Nail Tech.  Not available locally, I had to enrol in a Beauty course to do nails.  Thinking that learning a bit of waxing could not hurt, I put my big-girl pants on and went back into a learning environment for the first time in nearly 20 years.

What a revelation that course was.  1 year turned into nearly 3 years of study – I couldn’t get enough!  It took me into my 30’s, as a Mum of 4 to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up.  Now that I had found my passion, I spent the next few years honing my skills and learning anything I could along the way.  I met the most amazing people – both to work with and work on, and can honestly say that I love what I do.

When the opportunity came along to set up for myself, I wanted to create an environment that felt warm and welcoming – not intimidating like I had found some of the salons I had entered over the years.  A place where my clients can relax (well, as much as you can when having your hairs pulled out by hot wax!), and feel confident in both my company and competency.  Where they can unwind and forget about all the responsibilities of the outside world for a bit.

I look forward to welcoming you into my salon, to meet myself and my team, and to making you feel gorgeous!

Sam Tomkins.
